Almost everybody has the same wish in life: to live a long healthy life. Yet, there are still many people who don’t know how to do it, or just blatantly ignorant to do anything to achieve it.

While there’s no potion to maintain your youth, it’s actually not very hard to make some efforts to increase the longevity of your life. In fact, according to a study which was published in Circulation last year, there are ways to extend your lifespan by more than a decade. Now, we’ll share it with you in this post.

1. Healthy diet

If we’re talking about life longevity, then diet must be the first key. In fact, it has been long suggested that a Mediterranean diet (which includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and healthy fats) will lead you to a more robust and longer life.

2. A healthy level of physical activity

Next, to lengthen your life, you need to exercise your physical and mental health. Not only does it prolong your life, but it will also boost your mood and energy, thus improving the quality of life itself. At least 30 minutes of vigorous exercise every day will help you to achieve it. But if you’re not used to it, you can just start with moderate physical activity, like walking, using the stairs, mopping the floor, etc.

3. Healthy body weight

To avoid chronic conditions which can shorten your life span, you need to maintain your body weight. According to Circulation study defined as body mass index, the healthy body weight is between 18.5 and 24.9. Furthermore, keeping your healthy body weight will prevent you from obesity which is associated with diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and also cancer.

4. Quitting smoking

Many health problems, such as heart attack, stroke, and mouth and throat cancers will seriously threaten the quality and longevity of your life. For your information, those diseases are common to be found in active smokers. So, if you want to avoid those health problems, all you have to do is not to smoke at all, or just quit smoking. It will significantly increase your chance to live a longer life.

5. Consuming alcohol moderately

It was believed that moderate drinking is generally harmless. However, scientific opinion has become more cautious about alcohol intake since it was thought that there’s no exacts safe amount for drinking. Furthermore, the effects caused by alcohol intake such as addiction, cancer, traffic accidents, etc. always outweigh its benefits. That’s why it is advisable for you to limit your alcohol consumption if you want to avoid health problems and other negative impacts.
